As you travel to Loon Lake along HWY 38, you'll be enchanted by the beauty of the Umpqua River. The waterway is used by a wide variety of aquatic and outdoor adventurers, boaters and kayakers, but it is most famous as a popular destination for sturgeon, salmon, smallmouth and striped bass fishing. Hiking Near Loon Lake
There are a number of great hikes ready for beginning to advanced hikers in the Reedsport/Loon Lake area. The Reedsport/Winchester Bay Chamber of Commerce site offers information on a long list of available hikes, including several in the Loon Lake area, the Oregon Dunes and beaches. You might also try the "Dread and Terror Segment" of the North Umpqua Trail, a moderately easy, 8.1 mile hike that will take about four hours to complete. Water is abundant on this trail that follows the river and passes by several springs. Information this hike is available here.

From Reedsport, travel north to the exciting town of Florence. In between the two cities, you will be amazed by the dunes (some over 500 feet tall) in The Oregon Dunes National Recreation area, a favorite tourist spot because of the wide variety of recreational activities available and the unlimited beauty of the dunes.
Once you arrive in Florence, you will find many activities. You can take a dune buggy ride, rent a sandboard, play golf at the two courses, shop in the boutique stores of Historic Old Town on the Siuslaw River or the antique district, dine in the many fine restaurants or visit Three Rivers Casino. The Umpqua Valley Wine Region is known as the "Hundred Valleys of the Umpqua" and is home to some of the finest vineyards and wineries in the state. Twenty miles north of Roseburg, Oakland’s two-block business district consists of the original brick buildings built in the 1880s and 1890s. Stearns Hardware has been in operation since 1887 and Tolly's has an original old-fashioned marble-topped counter and soda fountain and ice cream parlor. Over 80 properties in the city were constructed between 1852 and 1890. The Oakland Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places 1979.
